President of FDCT Administrative Committee visits UM

U U Sang, president of the Administrative Committee of the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) of Macao, along with a delegation, visited the University of Macau (UM). They met with UM Rector Yonghua Song, Vice Rector Ge Wei, and other representatives to discuss topics such as research funding and the commercialisation of research results in depth.

During the meeting, Song provided an overview of UM’s development, covering its faculty size and student numbers, academic layout, achievements in establishing research platforms, and progress in fostering industry-academia collaboration. He highlighted that in recent years, UM has made significant progress in securing research grants, publishing high-impact papers, obtaining patents, and fostering industry-academia collaboration. The university houses three state key laboratories and boasts multiple disciplines that are ranked among the top globally. Its scholars have received prestigious awards, including the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize and the Macao Science and Technology Awards.

U spoke highly of UM’s research achievements, particularly its excellence in interdisciplinary research, international cooperation, and the commercialisation of research results. He added that FDCT will continue to support the research and development of Macao’s higher education institutions, encourage the participation of young researchers in international projects, and promote the real-world application of research outcomes.
